Led by faculty advisor Victoria Cavet, the FEA collaborated with local sponsors and families to create a variation of the “We are Newtown” t-shirt. The t-shirts were purchased and worn by Shore students, faculty, and staff in memory of those who were lost in Newtown, CT this past December.
Cavet (an English teacher that also serves as Sophomore Class Advisor), along with FEA members and Sophomore Class officers, worked together to gather donations for the scholarship fund as well as collecting proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts.
The successful effort raised $900 dollars, a sum humbly reflected upon by faculty and staff on Friday March 8th’s “We Are Newtown” day. Faculty and staff donned their “We Are Newtown” t-shirts and stood together to remember and pay tribute to this most meaningful cause.
Commented Cavet, “The Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy affected me greatly. The Future Educators’ members at Shore were adamant that we as a community had to do something for those that had experienced such tremendous loss. I extend the deepest thanks to our local sponsors and generous faculty and staff for their donations, all of which will be given directly toward victims’ relief. I earnestly hope this act of solidarity will provide some healing to those affected.”
